1.    WORLD VEGAN DAY- 1ST NOVEMBER

a.     World Vegan Day is celebrated every year on November 1 to encourage people to follow the vegan lifestyle and spread awareness about veganism.

b.     The day is dedicated to the practice of abstaining from use of animal products and exploitation of animals. All across the world, World Vegan Day is celebrated a day after Halloween on October 31.

Theme of World Vegan Day- based on the animal rights-focused campaign ‘Future Normal’.

2.     India Chem 2022 is set to organized from November 2nd to 3rd this Year.

a.     India Chem is the flagship event of the Indian Government’s Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals.

b.     It is the largest event focusing on Indian chemicals and petrochemical industry.

c.     It is one of the largest composite events of the industry in the Asia-Pacific Region.

 

3.     Russia withdraws from Black Sea Grain Initiative-launched to mitigate food inflation caused by conflict in Ukraine.

a.     The Black Sea Grain Initiative was an agreement between Russia and Ukraine with Turkey and the United Nations to create safe passage of food grains exported from Ukraine.

b.     Under this agreement, export of grain, food and fertilizers will be allowed to resume from Ukraine via a “safe maritime humanitarian corridor” from three key Ukrainian ports i.e., Chornomorsk, Odesa, and Yuzhny/Pivdennyi.

c.     A Joint Coordination Centre (JCC) having representatives from signatories of the Black Sea Grain Initiative was set up to implement this deal.

d.     Black Sea Grain deal was set to expire on November 19, 2022. The renewal negotiations were led by the United Nations throughout October 2022.

e.     However, Russia pulled out of this agreement on October 29 due to drone attack on its naval ships in the port of Sevastopol.

 

4.     Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has inaugurated North India's first hyper-scale data centre Yotta Yotta D1 built at the cost of Rs 5,000 crore

a.     3,00,000 square feet at the upcoming Data Centre Park in Greater Noida.

b.     Memorandums of Understanding worth Rs 39,000 crore were also signed between the Yogi Government and Hiranandani Group to be spent on projects in the next five years on the occasion.

c.     The data centre will increase the data storage capacity of the country, which until now stood at two percent only despite the fact that 1.5 billion mobile phones and 650 million internet users in the world are from India using 20 per cent of data.

 

5.     French Open 2022 Badminton: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag won men’s doubles title

a.     India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty clinched the French Open Super 2022 badminton tournament men’s doubles title after defeating Chinese Taipei’s Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han in straight games 21-13, 21-19 in the final, in Paris.

b.     With this, Satwik and Chirag’s also won their first-ever super 750 and second BWF World Tour title this year.

 

6.     Jamshed J Irani, also known as the “Steel Man of India”, passed away aged 86 at Tata Main Hospital in Jamshedpur.

a.     He was born on June 2, 1936, in Nagpur to Jiji Irani and Khorshed Irani, Irani completed his BSc from Science College, Nagpur in 1956 and M.Sc in Geology from Nagpur University in 1958.

b.     Irani retired from the Board of Directors at Tata Steel in June 2011

c.     After being appointed an International Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 1996, he was conferred an honorary knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II in 1997.

d.     Later in 2007, he received the Padma Bhushan government of India.

7.     Kerala govt selected M T Vasudevan Nair for first ‘Kerala Jyothi’ award.

a.     It was instituted by the Kerala govt on the lines of the Padma awards.

b.     Aim: To honour individuals who have made priceless contributions to the society.

Kerala Prabha: Omcheri N N Pillai and T Madhava Menon

Kerala Sree: Sathyabhama Das Biju, Gopinath Muthukad, Kanayi Kunhiraman, Kochouseph Chittilappilly, M P Parameswaran and Vijayalakshmi.

8.     RBI to launch Digital Rupee (Central Bank Digital Currency- CBDC) pilot for wholesale segment from November 1

a.     SBI, BoB, Union Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Yes Bank, IDFC First Bank and HSBC - 9 banks

b.     Wholesale digital rupee is used on a trial basis from Tuesday — initially for settlement of transactions in government securities.

c.     CBDC can be classified into two types: Retail (CBDC-R) and Wholesale (CBDC-W)

d.     CBDC-R: It would be potentially available for use by all.

e.     CBDC-W: It is designed for restricted access to select financial institutions.

 

9.     President, Droupadi Murmu has inaugurated 7th edition of India's Water Week in Greater Noida on November 1, 2022.

a.     Theme: “Water Security for Sustainable Development and Equity”

b.     Organised by the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation till the 5th of November.

c.     Aim: To raise awareness, conserve and use water resources in an integrated manner.

d.     Partner countries: Denmark, Singapore, and Finland

 

10. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has conferred the ‘Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal 2022’ to 63 officers for four special operations.

a.     The special operations was conducted by the security and police forces.

b.     63 officers from Punjab (16), Telangana Police (13), Delhi (19), Jammu and Kashmir (4) and Maharashtra (11) have been named for this award.

c.     The medals were awarded at the ‘Run For Unity’ event to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

 

11. The Income Tax Department has launched the HARIT Aaykar initiative on the occasion of National Unity Day (31st October).

a.     HARIT refers to Hariyali Achievement Resolution by Income Tax.

b.     Aim: To increase greenery and create micro forests.

c.     Under this initiative, the Department resolves to increase the green cover by planting trees and creating micro-forests in and around IT Department's buildings and other public areas.

d.     Chairman, CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes): Nitin Gupta

 

12. Red Bull driver, Max Verstappen has claimed a record 14th victory of the F1 season after securing the 2022 Mexico GP title.

a.     Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) has finished the race at second, while Red Bull's Sergio Perez finished third.

b.     George Russell finished at fourth for Mercedes.

c.     C Sainz and C Leclerc of Ferraris placed fifth and sixth respectively.

d.     Max has broken the record that was held by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel for the most wins in a single season.

 

13. The Mizoram Football Foundation (MFA) has tied up with Reliance Foundation to promote football at the grassroot level in the state.

a.     Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC) provide training support to the young footballers. As a part of this partnership, Naupang (Children) League will be introduced in Mizoram.

b.     Aim of League: To develop local ecosystems and enable aspiring and talented footballers as young as 5-year-olds (both boys and girls).

c.     The MFA and district football associations will host the leagues 4 Locations in Lunglei and Kolasib while RFYC will operate two leagues in Aizawl and Champhai

 

14. The Board of Directors of Samsung Electronics have approved the appointment of Jay Y Lee as executive chairman of the company.

a.     This appointment was recommended by Independent Director and Board Chairman, Han-Jo Kim. Takes over a position previously held by his father, Lee Kun-hee.

b.     Samsung Electronics is a South Korean multinational electronics corporation headquartered in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, South Korea.

 

15. Australia joins Indo-Pacific drill with Indian Navy

a.     Royal Australian Navy has sent ships HMAS Adelaide and Anzac for Exercise ‘Indo-Pacific Endeavour’ conducted by Indian Navy in Visakhapatnam, from October 30 - November 2, 2022.

b.     Meanwhile, the Indian Navy hold the Commanders Conference in New Delhi which was addressed by Rajnath Singh.

c.     IPE (INDO-PACIFIC ENDEAVOUR) 2022 will see engagements with the Maldives, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Laos, Cambodia, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia

 

16. The University Grants Commission has declared that December 11 will observe as a ‘Bharatiya Bhasha Divas’ every year.        

a.     Aim: To create language harmony and develop a conducive environment for learning Indian languages.

b.     The committee has selected December 11 as Bharatiya Bhasha Divas to mark the birth anniversary of poet Subramania Bharati, who was a pioneer of modern Tamil poetry.

c.     UGC Founded: 1956; Headquarters: New Delhi; Chairperson: D. P. Singh

 

17. The Reserve Bank has imposed fine of Rs 1.76 crore on Vakrangee, for violating various norms for Non-compliance with certain provisions of the White Label ATM (WLA) directions.

Fine on various entities:

a.     Jammu and Kashmir State Co-operative Bank Ltd: Rs 30 lakh

b.     The Pratap Co-operative Ltd (Mumbai-based): Rs 6 lakh

c.     LIC Housing Finance and The Mysore Merchants Co-operative Bank Ltd: Rs 5 lakh

d.     The Nagar Sahakari Bank Ltd, Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh: Rs 4 lakh

 

18. Elon Musk announced that the Twitter Blue Tick service will come with a monthly cost of USD 8 which is about Rs 660. Twitter Blue Tick service includes the coveted verified badge.

a.     This is a result to boost subscriptions and make social media networks less dependent on ads.

b.     The verified badge, which is essentially a blue tick means Twitter has confirmed that the account belongs to a person or business claiming it.

c.     The service is free for all current and it will be the first time that users will be required to pay fees to keep their verified badge.
